FLIGHT 60528On September 2, the Russians shot down a US C-130 airplane over Armenia because it “inadvertently flew into denied airspace.” Even though Flight 60528 was deemed non-lethal and was identified by Russians as a four-engine transport, it was still shot down and the crash killed all 17 people aboard. The plane departed from Incirlik, Turkey and flew on a course “parallel to the Soviet frontier but was not to approach the border closer than 100 miles.” After it was shot down, Russia denied any participation, but later returned six sets of remains back to America. The other eleven passengers aboard the plane have never been accounted for.
